Advent People

Christians are an Advent people. Which is to say, we are a people in waiting. A people of perpetual hope as we anticipate the second advent (or ‘appearing’) of Jesus. Those gifts that Christ won for us during His first advent, namely the forgiveness of sins, eternal life, and salvation, are, by faith, ours here and now. But at His second advent, we will know by sight that which is ours on account of Christ.

[Unable To Be In Worship This Week? Listen To Sunday’s Sermon HERE!]

To be sure, Jesus never ceases to come to us in His Word and in the Sacraments - delivering to us time and again his precious gifts. But in our busy and noisy world, with so much competing for our attention, hearing and seeing Jesus in His Word and Sacraments is more difficult than ever.

I wonder, though, what would happen if, for the next four months, we dedicated time each week to listening intently and intentionally to the voice of Jesus? What might we hear Him saying? What might He teach us? How might He change us?

From the end of Advent through the beginning of Easter, I would like to invite you to find out with me as we sit and listen to Jesus through the words of the Gospel of Luke. During this time we will read through the entire Gospel together throughout the week and during worship on Sunday mornings.

Pick up your reading guide before or after worship at Bethany or Our Savior’s this coming Sunday as we begin this new sermon series the following Sunday, December 22nd!
